Great Futures Start HERE.

From our Executive Director's blog....

Surveys and statistics demonstrate that the hours of 3-6pm during the school year, and all day long during the summer, are the times when children and youth are most vulnerable to violence, teen pregnancy, gang activity, crime and physical injury.

That is exactly why—for more than 150 years—Boys & Girls Clubs across the nation have offered after school and summer programming in a safe environment and under the leadership of trained staff who CARE about kids.

That message was delivered in 2016 through mufti-media all over the United States and beyond, as Boys & Girls Clubs of America kicked off its "Great Futures" campaign. Our goal is for all Club kids to have a positive and enriching experience all year long.

Boys & Girls Clubs, including our programs right here in Napa's up-Valley, are designed to be inclusive, affordable and accessible for all kids, with a special emphasis on “the kids who need us most.”

Boys & Girls Clubs of America President Jim Clark recently noted, “Research shows that kids who are productively occupied during the after school hours significantly enhance their probability for long-term success. Conversely, youth who are not engaged in beneficial activities during this period are at a greater risk of aberrant behavior- such as committing juvenile crimes.”

Jim continued, “Every day after school, every child needs a safe, supervised environment. For millions of kids, the Boys & Girls Club is their safe out-of-school setting to meet friends, have fun, get homework help and to be actively engaged under the watchful eye of trusted adults.”

Among the goals of the "Great Futures" campaign are:

  1. A wake up call to America, to stress the importance of youth issues in every community. Look for Boys & Girls Clubs on the Today show, Good Morning America, on internet sites and in the local media. Also, see the Boys & Girls Clubs' partnership with Major League Baseball.

  2. A focus on helping more kids graduate from high school. Surveys have shown that Club kids graduate at significantly higher levels than non members.

  3. Encourage community voluntarism, developing 21st century leaders

  4. Building a healthier generation through physical activity and healthy nutrition choices

Since 1989 the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Helena and Calistoga have been providing important programs through trusting relationships to children and teens in our communities. We enrich and change lives to 1,554 registered members in the Calistoga Teen Center, in our St. Helena Clubhouse and at the Calistoga school-based program. And, in 2016, we provided programs, education and training to 1,528 additional children and youth through our community outreach efforts.

2017 marks our 28th anniversary. We are proud of our legacy, and equally excited for our future.

On behalf of the kids we serve-- as well as our staff, volunteers and our devoted Board of Directors—THANK YOU for your support, and thank you for making the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Helena and Calistoga The Positive Place for Kids.

After all, Great Futures Start HERE.
